Bio
Dr. Paolo Mussone is a chemical engineer with 23 years of experience in academic research and industrial innovation. During this period, Paolo has initiated and executed privately and publicly sponsored large-scale projects in the area of renewable energy and chemicals, accumulating experience in assembling and leading research and development teams specializing in the execution of projects spanning from the laboratory to the field scale. His background and academic work in the area of green chemistry is complemented with industrial and commercialization experience in catalysis for the synthesis of petrochemicals, the conversion of biomass into high-value commodities, and more recently the development of a technology for the in situ remediation of hydrocarbon impacted sites. Paolo currently holds the Ovintiv Applied Research Chair in Energy and leads the Clean Technologies team at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology where he focuses on the emerging circular economy with emphasis on technology development and validation to transform industrial by-products from the plastics, forestry and agrioculture industries into high value chemicals.
