FES Forward

The Future Energy Systems (FES) research program will conclude in November 2026. Through videos and events, FES Forward highlights the program's accomplishments, and celebrates the work of more than 150 researchers, and over 1,300 postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and other highly qualified personnel.

Video Series

Learn more about FES projects and researchers through our FES Forward video series.

The Accelerator Project

The FES Accelerator Fund was created to launch near-market-ready research into the commercial market successfully. Fourteen energy transition-related research projects were supported. This video series showcases the projects and the researchers who lead them.

The Project Report

The Project Report features sit-down interviews with past and present FES researchers, exploring their key research questions and future research directions.

FES: Foundations and Futures

Launching in 2026, this series will explore the operation of the FES program, sharing lessons learned and future pathways for energy systems research at the University of Alberta.

Roadshow

Since 2017, FES researchers and HQP have shared their expertise with more than 115,000 members of the public at events across Alberta. Starting in September 2025, the FES Forward Roadshow will bring Energy Talks, classroom programming, and Energy Explorer experiences to new audiences around the province, and across Canada.

If you would like to suggest a stop for the FES Forward roadshow, please complete this form. Stops will be selected based on a number of factors, including the importance of energy systems content to the geographical region, presence of industry and community partners, and engagement of local school boards, libraries, and science centres.

Legacy Event

Hosted at the University of Alberta's North Campus in fall 2026, a final one-day showcase event will provide FES researchers, HQP, partners and collaborators the chance to celebrate their successes alongside key stakeholders and members of the public, both in person and online.

Talks, demonstrations, and lab tours will highlight all FES research areas, and future directions for U of A energy systems research will be shared to celebrate the legacy of the FES program.
